Holy cow, has it been HOT this week! A lot of change as we stare down the road that leads us into another transfer.
As I informed you all last week, I said goodbye to Elder Ho last Tuesday, and welcomed back my "father." Yup, Elder Li is back in the Chinese program after six months in English speaking areas. He is still very much the same fun-loving, wacky, and all-around-lovable missionary that trained me, except now with much better English! He has also grown as a missionary since I last worked with him, and I feel I have as well. We are really trying to hit the ground running by contacting former investigators, restarting a free English class for the Chinese natives around where we live, and contacting referrals.
Speaking of which, we met a man named Thomas this week, who had requested a Book of Mormon. He is from Laos, but speaks Mandarin. We managed to go down to Daly City to talk with him for a few minutes, and ended a quick conversation by adding him as a potential investigator. We also had another referral received this week, but have been unable to successfully contact Wendy Lee so far. Fingers crossed we'll find her eventually!
We are still very excited about our prospective baptism with Rebecca, our new investigator. However, due to scheduling concerns and her business with caring for her two year old and three month old sons (she has to deal with quite a handful), she was unable to meet with us this week. Please keep her in your prayers! She is SO prepared and so willing to meet and share her thoughts, desires, and feelings with us. We miraculously got in contact with her again last night, and hope to find a way to get a hold of some of her time this upcoming week. We also met with one of our Recent Converts (after a long time of being unable to contact him as well) and another investigator, though, we are not sure how much longer we will be meeting with him. Still, Elder Li worked his charitable magic (he is REALLY good at talking to people) and we will hopefully see some miracles come from our efforts.
I once again have begun a study of the Book of Mormon, this time highlighting every different Christlike Attribute that is emphasized in Preach My Gospel. It has been quite the interesting exercise, and I have found a real connection between the attribute of Humility, Faith, and Diligence, and how through exhibiting them all in how we live the gospel, we increase in Spiritual Knowledge. And, of course, Nephi proves to consistently be a great example of Obedience.
Elder Li has loved getting to know the city, even though he falls dead asleep on every bus trip we are on (he's bobs around like a bobble-head, and its pretty funny!), and we have enjoyed visiting our members and exploring downtown together. We hope to see more success in this crazy place we call our mission in the coming weeks.
I love you all! The gospel is true, and I hope you all know that Heavenly Father is there and watching over and loving you! Have an awesome week!
Love,
Elder Butters (Bao ZhangLao)
PS - Once again, if you could send up an extra prayer or two for Rebecca this week, that would be very much appreciated!
